Where to live near Lockheed Martin Fort Worth

The plant sits on Fort Worth's west side, off Highway 183 by White Settlement — which makes it one of the few major DFW employers where the affordable pockets and the short commutes are the same direction. Here's the honest pocket map.

The pocket map

PocketTypical drive1BR bandThe honest trade
White Settlement5–12 min$900–$1,200Shortest commute and lowest rents near the plant; older stock, fewer amenities — inspect units individually.
West Fort Worth (I-30 corridor)10–18 min$1,100–$1,450The volume play: the most communities, the most concessions, easy runs to both the plant and downtown.
Benbrook12–20 min$1,100–$1,400Quieter, lake access, small-town feel inside the loop — inventory is thinner, so good units move fast.
Willow Park / Hudson Oaks20–30 min$1,150–$1,500Newer builds, Parker County taxes and schools — Hudson Oaks still runs deep specials, though Willow Park's collapsed this month.
Aledo25–35 min$1,400–$1,900 (houses)The school-district play — mostly rental houses, not complexes. Families take the longer drive on purpose.

Drive times are off-peak estimates from public mapping tools and can vary substantially with departure time, traffic, construction, and the specific gate you use — test the route during your expected commute window before choosing a home. Pocket rent bands compiled from public listings, July 2026, and spot-checked September 3, 2026 against our 11 tracked communities — every named complex's figures on this page carry the September verification. Bands shift monthly, and specials change the effective math significantly.

The plant is west. The deals are west. For once in DFW, you don't have to choose between the commute and the rent.

How to run the decision

Minimize the commute: White Settlement and the I-30 corridor win, and your total housing + gas math is hard to beat anywhere in the metro. Maximize the home: Willow Park and Hudson Oaks trade ~10 minutes of highway for newer construction and Parker County — and right now the concessions out there are the corridor's biggest, which can invert the whole comparison. Run any two finalists through the one test that settles it: add up everything you'd pay over 12 months, divide by 12, compare. Free weeks make that number very different from the sticker rent. Schools first: Aledo ISD is the region's calling card, and rental houses inside it are their own market — start that search 60+ days early.

Two current examples with full field notes: Westpoint at Scenic Vista (6 weeks free plus no app fee, minutes from the plant) and Chapel Creek Cottages (up to 8 weeks free, new this month).

Common questions

Is buying near the plant smarter than renting?

At west-side prices, often yes — a ~$1,300 rent supports roughly $150,000 of house in Texas math. Relocating for a new job? Discuss employment-history and income-documentation requirements with your lender early. The calculator gives your number in 30 seconds.

Which pocket has the best move-in specials right now?

This month the deepest offers are west Fort Worth and Hudson Oaks — up to 8 weeks free at Chapel Creek Cottages and Birchway, and 6 weeks plus no app fee at Westpoint near the plant. The roundup names them and explains the upfront-vs-prorated fine print.

What about new-hire timing?

Many communities take applications ~60 days out. Income-verification requirements vary by property — if you're relocating for a new position, confirm whether the property accepts an employment offer letter before paying an application fee. Relocating with imperfect credit? The screening guide covers what actually moves approvals.

The communities people search by name

Field notes exist for the complexes this page's readers most often look up. Closest to the plant, in 76108: Westpoint at Scenic Vista — our “Lockheed commute killer” file — and Chapel Creek Cottages (gated cottages on the city side). The full closest-to-base inventory lives on the 76108 board — White Settlement and west Fort Worth, minutes from the plant. Out the I-20 corridor, the Willow Park trio — Olympus, Gates at Meadow Place, Canvas — is compared head-to-head in one guide. Rents and offers on every field note carry their own verified dates; confirm with the leasing office for today's status.

Two adjacent reads: the plant shares its fence line with NAS JRB — military households should start from the NAS JRB housing guide (and the jet-noise map before picking a pocket). And if your timeline is measured in years rather than a lease term, buying a home near the plant runs the owner's version of this page: published sale bands from $230K White Settlement to Aledo ISD, district by district.

Relocating to work at the plant — not just apartment hunting? The Lockheed relocation hub organizes the whole decision: rent vs buy, the pocket map, schools, the NAS JRB crossover, and the move checklist.

Two pockets the table compresses — and the short-term option

Two smaller map areas deserve their own sentence. Westworth Village sits between the plant/base and downtown along the White Settlement Road corridor — a small incorporated city whose location splits the difference when one household member points at Lockheed and the other downtown. Lake Worth and the north lakeside area sit just north of the base across the water — closer to NAS JRB's side of the fence line than to the plant's main entrance, so check your actual gate before assuming the map's straight-line distance. Both fall inside the “west Fort Worth corridor” band in the table above.

On a start date without a lease? New-badge hires and contractors often bridge with furnished or short-term housing before committing to a pocket — a real category near the plant, and a reasonable way to run a “scout month” before a 12-month term. The short-term and month-to-month guide covers the corridor's options and the premium math; corporate-housing providers also serve the plant, at prices well above the bands on this page — compare a quoted monthly all-in against a concession-adjusted 12-month lease before choosing.

Shift math: when you drive decides where you live

Shift schedules change the commute math, so the hour you drive matters as much as the miles. Very early starts generally mean lighter traffic than the metro's peak, and mapping estimates for pre-6am departures put even the Parker County runs well under their rush-hour worst case — but these are estimates, not measurements, and they vary by day, construction, and gate. Standard business-hours schedules face the full I-30/820 interchange peak; if that's you, weight White Settlement and the west FW pockets more heavily than the drive-time table implies. And compressed schedules (4/10s exist in aerospace, though your own schedule is the one that counts) change cost-per-trip math — three commutes a week prices a longer drive very differently than five. Before signing anything, drive your actual route at your actual report time once; fifteen minutes of reconnaissance beats every mapping app's average.

Gates, corridors, and pets — three details that decide comfort

Gates and corridors: the plant's main entrances sit off Lockheed Boulevard on the city's west side, reached from Spur 341/Clifford Street off I-30 or from the White Settlement Road side — so which gate your badge uses changes which pocket is genuinely "closest," and NAS JRB shift traffic shares the same corridor at change-of-shift hours. The metro-scale congestion point is the I-30/Loop 820 interchange: pockets west of it (White Settlement, 76108) skip it entirely on a plant commute, while a downtown-side address crosses it twice a day. Pets: policies and breed restrictions vary sharply by property — the cottage and build-to-rent products (Chapel Creek, Canvas) suit large dogs best with yards and no shared walls, while several apartment communities cap at two pets with breed lists; per-property fee notes live in the Fee Transparency Index, and always verify the current policy in writing before applying.

Beyond the 1BR: family and roommate math

2BR bands, same pockets: White Settlement $1,150–$1,450; west FW corridor $1,350–$1,750; Benbrook $1,400–$1,700; Willow Park $1,600–$1,900 before concessions. The roommate arbitrage: two colleagues splitting a $1,500 2BR pay $750 each — $350–450 under solo 1BR cost in the same pocket — and this year's 6–8 free weeks compound the spread. Contractors and new-badge hires: income-verification requirements vary by property, so confirm whether an employment offer letter is accepted before paying an application fee; applications often open ~60 days out, and some offices will slide a signed lease's start by 1–2 weeks if asked before move-in week — get any flexibility in writing when you sign, not when you need it.
