Living in Aledo: the definitive guide
Aledo is the small town that became North Texas's most-demanded school district address — ~8,100 students in the ISD, a town that still reads like a town, and a housing market running from $360K starter-new to seven-figure acreage. This is the assembled file: every number we've verified, every profile we've written, in reading order.
1 · The money layer
The Aledo-area combined tax basis runs ~2.06% (city 0.3901 + Aledo ISD 1.2052 + county/other) — below Willow Park–Aledo's 2.09% and far below Walsh's PID-loaded 2.689%, which means Aledo proper is often the cheapest way to carry the district (full table). The $140K homestead exemption gives back ~$1,690/yr against the school rate; the county's Aledo-area median bill (~$8,300) reflects home sizes, not a mistake. Entry points, priced: Morningstar from $360,990 · Parks of Aledo phases · resale via Aledo Heights and the established streets · acreage via Bear Creek Ranch and The Grasslands (every subdivision profiled).
2 · The schools layer
The district IS the demand: 12 campuses including a structure movers misread — a standalone ninth-grade campus, two middle schools splitting town and growth sides (every campus explained). The rule that survives all growth: campus assignment is per-address and re-drawable; verify in writing before any contract. Renters get the same schools — the 3BR district board from ~$2,100 is the try-before-you-buy play.
3 · The growth layer
Read the trajectory in the filings: our pipeline tracker logs the corridor's registered projects, the district's Growth Committee just presented high-school capacity recommendations, and builder behavior ($25–40K packages) tells you supply is still being pushed. Growth means: incentives now, boundary redraws later, and a tax base that keeps funding what people moved for.
4 · The decision layer
Rent first or buy now: the calculator with real local rents · What income supports here: affordability at 2.06% · New vs resale: the ledger · The move itself: the relocation sequence.
The daily-life layer: where Aledo actually eats, runs, and refuels
Food & coffee. The core rotation downtown and along FM 1187: Press Café (109 S Front St — breakfast-through-dinner American by the tracks, patio), Jakes Burgers (601 FM 1187 — burgers with a big outdoor kid-run area, open to 10–11pm), Wild Honey Collective (1799 FM 1187 — 6am coffee, sourdough, and baked goods, closed Sundays), Cultivate Community Workspace (401 FM 1187 — the coffee-plus-coworking hybrid, weekdays to 2pm, and the reliable answer to Aledo's patchy café wifi), and Fortified Brew & Blend on Bankhead Hwy for the 6am coffee-and-smoothie run. Ten minutes up in Willow Park, Parker County Brewing Company (210 Willow Bend Dr) is the family-friendly brewery-and-pizza evening, with Toastique next door covering the health-forward breakfast.
Parks & trails. The headline is the Parks of Aledo Trail system off Jenkins Rd — roughly six miles of stacked loops through the neighborhood greenbelts, maintained by the Weatherford Mountain Bike Association, genuinely good for running and beginner-to-intermediate mountain biking (gate closes when wet; open 6am–9pm). The Lakes Community Park (Sandpiper Dr) adds a catch-and-release pond and playground, and Aledo Commons (Aledo Trail, by the ballfields) is the picnic-and-Little-League anchor.
Golf & the rest. Split Rail Golf Club on Old Annetta Rd is the in-town course — a genuinely strong layout working its way back to form under newer management; locals treat it as a value round and watch conditions month to month. Pet care: VCA Aledo Animal Hospital sits on the I-20 service road at the Willow Park line (weekdays + Saturday mornings). The full corridor dining picture — including The District at Willow Park's restaurant row — lives in the Walsh guide's Clearfork section and the relocation hub.

Quick answers
Is Aledo a good place to live?
For families prioritizing schools, Aledo's case is unusually strong: an A-rated district that anchors the town's identity, new-construction depth in the $350–500K band, and a small-town core 25 minutes from Fort Worth. The trade-offs are real too — one-interstate dependence, thin nightlife, and a premium priced into the district's zone.
What does it cost to live in Aledo?
The tax stack runs about 2.056% of assessed value (before the $140K school homestead exemption), new construction clusters in the $350–500K band, and rents for district-zoned houses carry a school premium. The full lines live on the cost-of-living master page.
What school district serves Aledo?
Aledo ISD — a single-high-school district whose campuses are filed individually on this site, from the elementaries through Aledo High. Zones shift as the district grows, so verify the current campus for any specific address with the district's lookup before signing.
How far is Aledo from Fort Worth?
About 17 miles from downtown Fort Worth; the drive runs 25–35 minutes to downtown depending on the I-20/I-30 windows, and the commute tables on this site break out the major employer runs.
